Water resources and Hydrography
The area of the Karkonosze National Park is primarily drained by two left-side Bóbr tributaries: the Kamienna and the Łomnica.
The still waters include the few post-glacial mountain lakes called the Karkonosze Tarns, and also the shallow Snow Ponds at the bottom of Snow Cirque. Examples of the first ones are the Small Tarn and the Large Tarn, both located on northern slopes in the eastern part of Karknosze.
Large water resources are contained in aquifers, represented in the Karkonosze by waste rock aquifers, peatland waters and bog-springs. The largest, basic underground water resources are located in the slope formations.
Peatland waters can be found in peat covers in the numerous wetland areas within the Karkonosze. The volume of these water resources is quite stable. In the most mires permanent or periodic surface runoffs occur as individual streams or stream networks formed in the bottom parts of the mires.
Bog springs are small peatland or wetland areas on mountain slopes, supplied with water by base groundwater runoffs. The base bog runoffs are predominant in the Karkonosze.
