Nature of the Karkonosze Mountains
The Karkonosze Mountains present an extraordninary natural beauty to us. Their diversity and dynamic processes make them differ from other European mountain ranges. To get deeper insight, we must not only have a good look into the marvellous world of the elements that may be imperceptible to the naked eye, but also understand their variability in time: the variability that is perceptible through diverse forms of living organisms appearing in a sequence; weather changeability, which makes the mountains look different at certain altitudes, land relief, and passage of time. It is just the variability that is the source of the mountains’ dynamic processes and particular character and is further distinguishing them from other mountainous landscapes.
The Karkonosze National Park, which on the Polish side includes the central part of the Karkonosze, aims to protect these precious values for us all. It is crucial for us to understand that due to their modest size the mountains are particularly exposed to serious damage. It is said that they stand for all the characteristics of monumental mountains, but in miniature. We are thus responsible for the protection of this unique value on our earth, both for our contemporary society and for forthcoming future generations.
